BJA Southern Area Junior & Senior Kata Championships - 10 April 2010

For various reasons SAJC didn't enter any juniors into this competition. Two pairs of seniors entered the Juno Kata section, Bob Cleevely/Zoli Borzak and Gemma Wright/Megan Taylor. Gemma and Megan had only trained with each other for a couple of months. They entered this competition knowing it was their first in this discipline as well as their first as seniors. All the stops were pulled out and they produced their best performance to date to secure 3rd place and the bronze medal. Bob and Zoli took the silver.

7th Open Masters of Tours, Kata - 17 April 2010

Fortunately for Bob & Zoli they weren't flying to this competition. After a fair drive and a good night's rest they produced what was their best performance to date in the preliminary round, a result of all the extra training, to enter the final in 3rd place. The finals in the afternoon saw the SAJC pair produce another good performance, one good enough to take 4th place. Training now continues in earnest in preparation for the World Championships at the end of May.

BJC Junior Nationals 2 May 2010

The weekend saw some excellent results for SAJC judoka. Lucy Day retained her title as National Champion. Chloe Alvis, Gemma Wright,Mikey Edwards, Tom Borzak and Victoria all managed to come away with a bronze each. The day was long, a well attended competition, but was well worth the wait to see the excellent and committed performances by our youngsters. Well done to all.

What a day. 23 entries from St Albans JC ranging from primaries (under 10s) to seniors (male dan grades). Of these 23, 8 came away with a gold (Faith Trounce, Amy Platten, Anna Javurkova, Anton Charman, Freya Weddell, Joel Peters, Megan Taylor, Mikey Edwards), 2 with a silver ( Bradley Howell, Lucy Day) and 8 with bronze (Ben Goodchild, Chris Pearse, Connor Wildridge, Eliza Peters, Jessie Edwards, Tom Goodchild, Tom Lish, Tomi Borzak). Noted were Faith Trounce, who was competing in her first competition and Anton Charman who pulled out all the stops and produced his best to date. Connor Nash, Elena Howell, Paddy Lish and Tyler Nash were unfortunate not to make it to the medals but they still wasn't through lack of trying. They should all be proud of their performances. A big thank you goes out to the army of volunteers who helped make the event a success (organisers, referees, table officials, all those at registration, kitchen staff). You know who you are.
