SAJC Hosts GB Olympian Nekoda Davis
Session video available
St. Albans Judo Club2 days agoWednesdays are always busy ones at SAJC, with 50 students in across the 4 classes, and a variety of skills and drills being worked on. 👍
🐵 First up were the Mini Monkeys who were "Crawling the dark tunnel", "Crossing the wobbly bridge", "Jumping from the cliff" and finally "Tarzan swinging over the crocodile river" as they developed their agility & co-ordination skills.
🐉 They were followed by the Dragons who all worked really hard on their Ne-waza fundamentals. They also did some Tarzan swings to finish off 😀
🐯 / 🐺The 3rd class saw the Tigers & Wolves working on Tachi-waza "Action & Reaction" - combining Ashi-waza attacks with forward throws. They finished up with some really good Randori.
🤜 Finally the big "kids" were in for our U21s class. Their focus for the night was Sutemi-waza and Shime-waza. Again finishing up with some great Randori. (and some Tarzan swings, because why not 🤣)
As always I failed on the photography, but I did manage a couple of short clips of the Tigers & Wolves Randori.
(Apologies for my lack of videoing skill!)St. Albans Judo Club4 weeks ago✨ Happy New Year ✨
🥋 Wishing all our Members, Visitors & Friends a very happy new year, and hopes for a healthy, happy & Judo filled 2022. 🥋
2021 has been another up and down year for everyone, with much joy and some sadness but the club presses ever onwards.
Subject to any changes in Covid restrictions we'll reopen on Tuesday 4th January. Hope to see you all back and ready to train 😃St. Albans Judo Club1 month agoIt is with a very heavy heart that we are posting this evening.
Our dear Friend Sensei Zoli has sadly lost his battle with Cancer and gone on to join the ranks in the Dojo beyond. 😢
This is news that we were hoping would be a long time in coming.
Zoli had been a club member for around 20 years, in that time progressing to 2nd Dan and becoming a Senior Club Coach, he spent many years on the Committee (and in the last few years as a Director on the Board), taking on numerous roles, including Secretary and most recently serving a spell as Chairman in 2019/20, stepping down only when he became ill.
He was a technical specialist and had an extraordinary passion for Kata, representing Team GB in Ju-no-Kata at the European Championships in 2009 and the IJF Worlds in 2008 & 2009. Along with his many, many appearances at UK Kata events.
He could also be regularly found amongst the referees at BJC events, from beginner’s rumbles to National championships.
His firm, but fun way of coaching led to his Wednesday night class building up into a consistent group of twenty-five plus 13–17-year-olds in the last couple of years before Covid hit us. His “Zoli-ball” variant of dodgeball is one the most commonly requested games on the mats.
We will all miss him terribly. His skill aside, we miss his dry humour and sharp wit.
Tonight, we raise a glass to our dear, dear friend. 🍺
🥋 Judoka Rei! 🥋St. Albans Judo Club1 month ago💫 2025 is fast approaching, and that will mark 75 years of SAJC! 💫
There's lots of things in the planning stages which will be announced as time goes on to ensure we get a great celebration.
But, for some of them we need a bit of help - unfortunately a lot of our history is gone, many older paper records have been lost, or perhaps things were never written down to begin with.
So, this is a shout out to our fabulous members of years past
👉 Did you, your kids, your parents or even your grandparents earn your Black Belt through SAJC?
Let us know, and we'll add you to the records.
If you have licence pictures, certificates or photos of presentation, even better!
We hope to be able to create a Dan Grade Honours Board for the dojo walls.
👉 Also, did you ever receive one of the club trophies? Particularly before 2000?
Many of the entries just have initial & surname, and the memory of who those people are is gone. Again, let us know so our "Hall of Fame" can be updated with your full name.
👉 Finally, do you have any photos of your time at SAJC? We have lots from the last 15 years or so, but very few from older days. Group shots, medal shots, general practice or competition/course photos. Anything you've got get in touch.St. Albans Judo Club1 month agoHere's a look back in time... with a photo from the 25th Alf Hopkins Summer School in 2014.
I can spot a few faces who still come to SAJC or who've moved away but we still see at competitions and courses, but can you find yourself?! 😃St. Albans Judo Club is feeling festive.2 months ago🌟Please note there's been a slight change to the previously announced dates for the end of 2021🌟
🎄 Don't forget your Santa Hats, Elf Ears or Reindeer Antlers for the final sessions! 🎄
👍 Classes resume from 4th Jan 2022
👉 Next round of trials for new beginners is Week Commencing 10th January - Contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you'd like to find out more. 😀
