As you will have seen from the notice posted at the dojo before the half-term break, our Annual AGM is on Thursday 30 June 2022 at 7pm.
The meeting will take place in the Dojo, and there will be no class on that evening.
If you would like to stand as a Director please contact us for a nomination form.
We encourage all fully paid-up Senior Members (16+) and Parent Members to attend this important meeting. It is your chance to hear about what is happening at your club, hear about the progress made in the past year, engage with the current Board and to vote on any important matters to decide the direction of the club.
Further details of the proposals to be discussed will follow shortly.
Remember, it is your club. So be sure to have your say by joining the AGM.
We are proud to have met the requirements to be awarded the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts.
Today was another great day on the mats for the club.
At the Kent International, Ryan competed in the O100kg Senior men's group.
He had a strong start with an excellent ippon in his first fight, but was overpowered (giving away around 45kg!) in round 2. Dropping into the repechage, he bounced back with another solid ippon, this time within the first 10 seconds of the contest! (I barely had time to sit in the chair 😂). Unfortunately he wasn't so lucky in next bout, loosing that and finishing up in 7th place. All in all, a brilliant effort and excellent learning experience for him. 👍
Back at the dojo we had 2 taking part in the BJC Area grading.
First up was Freya who was graded to 3rd Kyu San (green belt + 3 blue tabs). 👍
And to finish up, Ben G won his required 3 fights, passed his technical and was promoted to 2nd Kyu (blue belt) 👍
Well done to Kristian & George today on their amazing efforts.
Both ended up together in a group of 16. (Which made the matside job easier for sure!)
After a "touch and go" week of where we weren't sure if he'd even be fit to fight after Covid, Kristian had 2 really good attempts, but both unfortunately got away from him.
George had 2 wins, putting him into the semi-finals, where he was unlucky and got caught for an ippon. Dropping into the repechage, he fought hard for Bronze, but was caught out by a style of tactical judo he's not had to face before, ending the day in 5th place.
This is competition far above the level the club has been competing at for a number of years, so it was very much a learning day on the job for all of us.
Am looking forward to working through & developing from this in our classes over the coming weeks ready for the next one 👍
