πŸ₯‹ Another excellent day out on Sunday at the BJC Open National Championships. 9 Competitors in total, although 3 of them seem to have escaped the camera!

A hard event for some, but all showed good judo, along with excellent sportsmanship, and great courage to step up to this level of competition.

Sadly no placing this time for Isla, Dan, Sam or Ben in their categories.
David & George M, both in large groups, made it through their initial pools with some good wins and progressed into the final crossover pool, but were unlucky in their bronze medal matches, so both came away with 5th place - Still an excellent showing for two relatively novice judoka
πŸ₯‰ Bronzes went to Lindsay & Zoe, who both showed excellent determination to medal in hard groups against more experienced opponents. πŸ₯‰
πŸ₯‡ Last of our team on the mat was George H, who showed his excellent judo once again to take the Gold medal. πŸ₯‡

Extremely proud of everyone! πŸ€©πŸ‘πŸ€©

Also, big shout out to Samuel who came along to support the team, and act as my second, rushing between mats to support the kids, and to take notes for me when I couldn't be in two places (or 3 at one point!) at once! πŸ‘

I have just noticed a post that didn't post from a couple of weeks ago!

Bishops Stortford Yellow, Orange & Green Championships 14th April.

Just a small entry in this slightly higher level event, but great determination and effort from all. Really proud of everyone for giving it a go. πŸ‘

Fighting in a big group, and doing their first "Knockout" style event, there were no medals this time for Daniel or Kalan.

πŸ₯‡George R (Rush)

Big apologies to those whose participation got missed! 🫣

We had a great day out at the High Wycombe Red Belt Rumble on Saturday, with 4 boys entered in the morning. Great efforts from them all, some good techniques and amazing spirit. Then in the afternoon we had 1 girl, and again a brilliant effort with some good judo. πŸ‘

πŸ₯‰ Sebastian, Grayson, Zac
πŸ₯ˆDavid, Isla

With a special mention to Zac who was given a shout-out by the organisers as their "Spirit of Judo" award for the event.

Great day out for our younger members yesterday at the Bishops Stortford U8s Festival. Split into age groups for 6 year olds & 7 year olds, we even managed to snap a whole team photo in the middle.

Well done to Aillie, Cora, Lizzie, Theo, Ruairi, Finn & Max on your excellent performances! πŸ‘

For some this was their first time taking part in anything outside our own dojo, and they all handled it brilliantly. The judo was strong, and they all gave it their best efforts, putting into practice what we learn in class.

Great work from Samuel who came along as assistant coach to look after them, doing a great job keeping them calm & focused, and offering supportive encouragement & coaching throughout.

Our thanks to Bishops Stortford Judokwai for putting on an excellent, fun & relaxed introduction to competitive judo for our youngsters. πŸ₯‹

Busy night at our Fighting Fit session last night - An excellent turn out for a holiday week, with 22 on the mat all working hard & getting extremely sweaty!

Ukemi & Ashi-waza practice to start, then fitness circuits, 8x 3-min transitional Randori bouts & we even had time for a game before the youngsters went off. To finish off, the adults carried on for a bit more Randori & technical practice.

Our next session is on April 22nd 6:45pm-7:45pm/8:15pm open for all ages & visitors welcome (minimum grade requirements & u8s by invitation only)
